August 2016 trip across the US from Washington DC to Sacramento, CA. Washington DC to Chicago was via the triweekly Cardinal the other ChicagoWashingtonNew York train. Unlike the daily Capital Limited, this train is not equipped with bilevel Superliner cars. This train features Viewliner sleepers and Amfleet coach and business class and food service cars and lots of scenery. The California Zephyr route through the Colorado Rockies and over the Sierra Nevada Mountains in California is one of the most scenic and spectacular in North America.
