Sixth Commandment Explained Thou Shalt Not Kill
What is the meaning of the sixth commandment of the ten commandments, You shall not kill As we have been discussing the ten commandments in the full lesson here the commandments are not what theyre commonly thought to be, i. e. Gods moral instructions for humanity, but they each become revealed in relation to the higher reality we attain through spiritual progress. What, then, is killing in relation to this spiritual progress Killing means cutting the cords of connection we have in this process, which is a crucial factor in our spiritual advancement, and receiving pleasure for personal benefit alone. In other words, killing means using or exploiting others out of selfinterest. Spiritual progress to the higher reality is achieved by increasing our spiritual desire. We increase our spiritual desire by increasing the importance of spirituality (discussed in the previous commandment about honoring the mother and the father) above our selfimportance
