31 Jesus is arrested
While he was still speaking, Judas, one of the Twelve, arrived. He had agreed to betray Jesus for the price of thirty silver coins. With him was a large crowd armed with swords and clubs, sent from the chief priests and the elders of the people. Now the betrayer had arranged a signal with them: The one I kiss is the man; arrest Going at once to Jesus, Judas said, Greetings, Rabbi and kissed him. Jesus replied, Judas, my friend, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss Then Jesus turned to the officers of the temple guard, who had come together with Judas and asked, Who is it you want Jesus of Nazareth, they replied. I am he, Jesus said. When Jesus said, I am he, they drew back and fell to the ground. Matthew 26:4557; Luke 22:4553; John 18:112.
