100 Hardest Pieces: Piano Solos (up to 1920)
TURN ON CAPTIONS FOR COMMENTARY :) This is a highly approximate, highly subjective ranking of the most difficult solo piano works from the beginning of solo piano to the year 1920. It was determined by sight reading, serious eyeballing, and wild speculation. The point of this list is not to create some sort of scientific ranking of difficulty but instead to expose the viewer to the great variety of difficult pieces which are out there. Is this ranking accurate When dealing with something as subjective as difficulty, no ranking of this kind is perfect. Some people feel that Schumanns Sonata No. 3 is more difficult than the Brahms Paganini Variations. Some people feel that Chopins etudes are harder than Liszts etudes. I dont have the same fingers and mind as everyone else but I tried my best to make a decent list. Think of it as 100 very difficult pieces ordered by difficulty, kind of rather than these are scientifically the 100 most difficult works and anyone saying otherwise is wrong
