Elenore was created as a parody of The Turtles previous hit, Happy Together, in response to their record label, White Whale, pressuring them for another similar hit. The band intentionally crafted Elenore with clichéd lyrics and changed chords as an antilove letter to their record label. However, the record company failed to see the joke and released the song, which became a hit due to its catchy sound and upbeat production. The Turtles, known for their unique blend of pop and rock, often performed songs composed by other writers. However, Elenore was written by the entire band, consisting of Howard Kaylan, Mark Volman, Al Nichols, Jim Pons, and John Barbata. Despite its satirical origins, Eleno
