They call them butterfly children or People With Butterfly Skin. They have epidermolysis bullosa, or EB, one of the most painful and destructive genetic diseases in the world. From childhood, their skin is as flimsy as a butterfly s wings, so they spend their life covered in blisters and sores. They are vulnerable to cancer, and few of those with the severe forms of this disease reach adulthood. About 20 babies in 1 million are born with a form of epidermolysis bullosa. From then on, life is a fight for every minute of pleasure and happiness. EB patients and their families share their struggles and the hope that keeps them alive.
