GERMANY WINS THE FIRST ROUND In the end, with eight medals one gold, two silver and five bronze won by its riders during the three days of the competition, Germany won the first round of the UCI Track Cycling World Cup 20112012, presented by Samsung. In spite of their three wins, the Australians had to concede 29 points to the Germans in the Team ranking of the event which sees France, as current trophy holder, finish in third place. Yet, the last meeting had begun very well for the Cyclones, winners of the Madison with Alexander Edmondson and Glenn Oshea who had already won the Individual Pursuit the day before in front of Switzerland and the Russians of the Lokosphinx team, after a rather eventful race. However, all the spectators present in the velodrome at Astana were eagerly waiting the moment to experience the emotions of the last two Sprint contests which remained to be fought out.
