Tom Burke (1932)
Lengthy intertitles explain the story of the opera, Pagliacci. Main title reads: Pathetone presents the worldfamous Operatic Tenor Tom Burke as Canio, (the clown) in On With the London (probably Pathe Studio). Various shots of On With the Motley from Pagliacci; the set shows the theatre tent of a travelling show against a painted backdrop of the Italian countryside. Tom Burke, as Canio, has discovered his wife has a lover and is about to attack her. Tonio, the hunchback, tells him to wait and the lover will appear. Peppe, the Harlequin, tells him the show must go on. Canio sings of his torment, and eventually goes into the theatre tent, weeping.
