Thomas Edward Lawrence, an iconic British military officer, adventurer, and scrivener, otherwise known as Lawrence of Arabia, achieved great notoriety for his significant role in the Arab Revolt, an uprising that took place during the First World War. Born in Tremadog, Wales, on the 16th of August, 1888, Lawrence s earlier years were consumed with wandering around Europe and the British Isles in the company of his family. His sire, Sir Thomas Chapman, a wealthy baronet, absconded from his responsibilities to his spouse and brood to cohabit with his mistress, causing Lawrence to feel abandoned and instilling in him a desire to validate himself.
