Japanese garden lantern flickering LED retrofit
We purchased a cast concrete but pretty realistic looking Japanese garden lantern in a moving sale. Having lived in Japan for a few months, we knew these are actually used as lanterns, particularly at temples. Living in southern California, we didn t want to be leaving real flames unattended, so, in the spirit of Hollywood, we decided to fake it. We were lucky to find a pretty realistic 96LED, solar flickering tiki lamp we thought could be modified to work in the garden lantern. Here s how we did it, and how it worked out.
