Barbs of spindly branches sprung at your face every few paces, but finally the underbrush broke onto a rough trail and before you stood the ruin. Its crumbled edifice and yawning arches drew the image of a distorted face, one that looked surprised at the stranger who even in normal times had no business being there. The rain had now seeped through the upper branches and pattered on the uneven ground.
