S. Koreas births in June lowest for any June since 1981: Statistics Korea
6월 출생아 역대 인구 자연감소 South Korea continues to see its population decline with the number of births falling to an all time low for the month of June. Population mobility was also down in July. Kim Sungmin reports. South Korea s births in June this year were the lowest for the month of June since 1981 when data was first compiled. Dropping for 67 straight there were just 21thousand526 births in the month of June. Meanwhile, deaths causing a decline in population for the 20th consecutive month. The reason lies in the declining number of women in their 30s an age group which normally has the highest birth and the declining number of marriages. Also, the age of marriage is getting higher which means more people are having their first child dragging down births in general. And COVID19 is further accelerating the declining marriage rate.
