Antti Syrjäniemi Daytonian apinajuttu ( Daytonin apinajuttu )
This is an old Finnish immigrants songs from the USA recorded 1929. There is not much knowledge about Antti Syrjäniemi (Andrew Niemi) and in fact, still many Finns believe, that this is Hiski Salomaas song, but it s not. Finnish new generation artist Tuomari Nurmio with Pedro s Heavy Gentleman rerecorded this in year 1982 under name Daytonin apinajuttu you can find it also from YouTube. This song is a story about John Thomas Scopes, a teacher in Dayton, Tennessee, who was charged on 1925 with violating Tennessee s Butler Act, which prohibited the teaching of evolution in Tennessee schools. He was tried in a case known as the Scopes Monkey Trial. I hope owners of the rights want to see this as an honor to artist, which it really is And same goes to these random photos, which I have found from net. My hope is, that everyone can just listen to these songs and think some minutes of those hard times, which these brave men and women has spent far away from home. Enjoy
