Smoke gets in your eyes has been covered by numerous artists; the first being Paul Whiteman and his Orchestra in 1934. After that it s been covered by Larry Adler and Henry Hall, Nat King Cole, Charlie Parker and Jo Stafford, Eartha Kitt and many others. But the most wellknown version of Smoke Gets in Your Eyes was recorded in 1958 by The Platters, for their album Remember When . The group s cover became a number one hit in the US, on the Billboard Hot 100 music chart. In 1959 the song went on to peak at number three on the Rhythm and Blues chart. On the UK charts the song spent five weeks at the top during February and March of that same year. The Platters formed in Los Angeles in 1953. In the summer of 1955, Only You became the group s first Top Ten hit on the pop charts and topped the R B charts for seven weeks.
