Pussy Riot whipped by Cossack militia in Sochi during performance attempt
Cossack militia attacked the Pussy Riot punk group with horsewhips as the group tried to perform in Sochi under a sign advertising the Winter Olympics. Six group members five women and one man were pulling out a guitar and microphone when at least 10 Cossacks and other security officials moved in. The women were chanting in Russian: Putin will teach you to love the Motherland when the Cossacks started to brutally disperse them. Pussy Riot, a performanceart collective involving a loose membership of feminists who edit their actions into music videos, has become an international flashpoint for those who contend that Russian President Vladimir Putin s government has exceeded its authority, particularly restricting human rights. euronews: the most watched news channel in Europe Subscribe euronews is available in 14 languages: In English: Website: Facebook: Twitter: Google+: VKontakte:
