Modernity Cherished Simulacra (full ep, 2023)
For my final feature this week, I am changing the tone considerably, as has the artist behind this project to create this new vision. I bring you a new EP of bucolic British neofolk from Modernity, which we arrive at by way of this supremely talented artists expeditions through fantasy dungeon audio adventures, black metal, harsh noise wall and now four tracks of plaintive songwriting, laced with an undercurrent of industrial darkwave noise. I have been transfixed for the past few weeks by the transportive qualities of this ep, in thrall to the rustic charms of nostalgia, stories depicted through an affecting baritone reminiscent of Jérôme Reuter. The music follows in his footsteps with its own richly detailed soundworld, and echoes of bands like Rome and Sol Invictus haunting its hallowed flagstones; no doubt An English Garden plays heavily in the Modernity household. Pick up this EP, and dig into the previous releases on the Modernity Bandcamp: modernityengland
