Biquefarre ( Georges Rouquier, 1983)
Georges Rouquier, the French director best known for his documentaries, returned to the farming community in Aveyron in southcentral France to pick up the story of the Rouqier family, his cousins who had been featured in his earlier film, which was a huge critical success in its time and which is considered to be a classic of its kind. The result, Biquefarre, is as moving for the director s persistence of vision as for the film itself, which records, in lowkey, quasidocumentary style, the revolutionary changes that have taken place not only in agriculture, but also in the social and economic life of the community. Biquefarre, was awarded a special jury prize at the 1983 Venice Film Festival.
