Piglet squid from deep is almost see through
The piglet squid, Helicocranchia pfefferi, is so called because of its wide face, snout, and tuff of tentacles that look like hair. It s also been called the glass squid, or cloudy squid, as it is almost seethrough an adaption for camouflage in the deep sea. It lives neither at the top of the bottom of the ocean but in the middle the mesopelagic zone that extends from about 200 to 1000 metres (660 to 3300 feet) below the surface of the ocean, where it is mostly dark. Little is known about this cute little squid and although found worldwide it is not known whether they are one species. This one came from the San Clemente trench off California.
