Long Live the Commune is a French revolutionary song written in 1871 by Eugene Chatelain, a member of the Jacobin faction of the Council of the Commune and the Society of Socialist Republicans, taking the melody from the popular SansCulotte song The Permanent After the defeat of the Commune by counterrevolutionary forces in May, Long Live the Commune remained popular among veterans of the Commune militia and supporters of the ideals of the Communards.
