Archie Shepp is a Black American jazz saxophonist. Shepp has remained a committed radical for his whole life. In the 1960s and 70s, he was an outspoken supporter of militant U. S. Black Power organizations such as the Black Panther Party, as well as panAfrican socialist movements around the globe. In 1975, Shepp released this live recording of a performance at the Massy, France Jazz Festival on Uniteledis, the record label of the French Socialist Party. The title track UJaama refers to the agrarian socialist development project then being carried out by the Tanganyika African National Union (TANU) AfroSocialist government of Tanzania led by anticolonial activist and politician Julius Nyerere.
