Stretching Things Too Far (1933)

(Pathetone main titles. ) Titles read: Stretching things too far An Australian Police training Cameo . Sydney, Australia. M, Ss of policemen in training at the Langridge School of Physical Culture, riding on bicycle machines and climbing up ropes. We then see a man who is just below the required height for being a policeman. He lies down on a bench, has a kind of chin strap attached to his head and his feet strapped onto the bench. The operator then turns a handle at the end of the contraption to move the lower end of the bench away from the upper, stretching the man as it does so The man is apparently 2 inches taller after this treatment. A much smaller man comes in for the same treatment; he is 5 3. While turning the wheel on the machine, the operator is distracted by a friend who comes in to chat. When he finally realised he has been stretching the man for quite some time, the man has grown about 2 foot (Obviously replaced by a taller man while we weren t looking. ) FILM
