Fascinating 19th Century Photos of Old Japan Brought To Life
In this video we re looking at early photography in Japan and collection of fascinating 19th century photos of old Japan, hand coloured by photographer Suzuki Shinichi, HD enhanced, color restored and brought to life using latest digital technology. In the nineteenth century, Japan experienced a transition from an Edoperiod and isolationist society to an imperial one, the Meijiera, which gradually opened doors to foreign trade, western travellers, and technologies. This provided an opportunity for early photographers such as Felice Beato and others to introduce photography to Japan. This led to individuals like Shimooka Renjo to be amongst the first Japanese to undertake photography professionally. In 1862, he established one of the country s first photographic studios in Yokohama.
