UNIQUE APFSDS Vol. 4, Tapered Segments, Split Rod, Jacketed APFSDS, Armour Penetration Simulation
This video simulates how an APFSDS with tapered segments would behave, as well as a splitrod design from literature, and a jacketed APFSDS design. The idea behind tapered segments is that they will push the spacer material aside more easily, maintaining more of their original velocity, increasing penetration. The splidrod design comes from a paper (linked below) which states that it increases penetration. However, they increase the overall length of the projectile so the conclusions dont hold true when length is kept constant. The jacked projectile is similar to some existing designs and is meant to reduce projectile fracture when impacting ERA and NERA. It should be noted that in reality, the lighter projectiles will not reach their stated velocity. The velocities are to keep energy constant for comparison.
