Bach Viola da gamba sonata in G major BWV 1027 Van der Velden, Netherlands Bach Society
Bach wrote this Sonata for viola da gamba and harpsichord performed here by Mieneke van der Velden and Emmanuel Frankenberg for All of Bach in Köthen and it is very likely that he wrote the piece for Christian Ferdinand Abel, one of the cellists at the court. Although this sonata has never become really famous, it is Bach through and through. In the quick movements, we hear the gilt castiron polyphony that forms the trademark of the composer.
