Kubrickian Irony: The Dark Humor of Stanley Kubrick
The irony in Kubricks oeuvre isnt exactly like rain on your wedding day. Its more cosmic, more karmic, more mean, and more pointed. And its not exactly understated, either it oozes out of every movie, as black and as bleak as humor can be. Which, if you think about it, is pretty appropriate for capturing things that are as sublime, and absurd, like violence, space travel, and sex. Above all, its a way to depict, not just a misfortune, but a tragedy, and Kubricks movies are nothing if not full of tragedies. In this video, we take a look at how Kubrick has made irony an art form, and tease out perhaps the greatest irony of all.
