Maslenitsa ( Pancake Day) in Russia: from pagan times to this day
Maslenitsa is a Slavic holiday, which combines Christian traditions and pagan rituals. This is a popular holiday in Russia, and we celebrate it even here, in the Far East. In ancient times, Maslenitsa used to be a whole week of fun before the Great Lent, which is the most important fasting season for Christians. During the week, people would carry out fist fights, dance and sing, and gorge themselves on rich food. The culmination of the holiday is burning of Winter s scarecrow, which symbolizes saying goodbye to winter and greeting spring. I was surprised to learn that almost every country has its own version of Maslenitsa. Pancake Day, Shrovetide, Palenie Moreny and Kiszebáb égetés to name a few. I think it s fascinating that in different countries we have holidays with the same origin. So, in this video I ll show you how we celebrate Maslenitsa in Khabarovsk, Russia. , Maslenitsa, PancakeDay, Russia Yeah Russia on Instagram: Support me on Patreon:
