How to clean a new katana, or after kobudo cutting demonstration, do not touch the sharp edge of the blade. 1. Wipe off shipping oil or debris from the blade using a clean cloth running along the backside of the katana 2. Lightly tap uchiko ball along both broadsides of the blade, avoiding the sharp edge 3. Wipe off the dust with a new clean cloth 4. Place small amount of oil on a 3rd, unused cleaning cloth 5. Wipe a thin layer of oil on both broadsides of the blade, running the cloth along the backside of the katana
