The AKATHIST HYMN to the MOTHER of GOD
The AKATHIST HYMN to the MOTHER of GOD was written by St Romanus the Melodist in the 6th century. It is sung on the Fifth Saturday of Great Lent as well as throughout the year in supplication and thanksgiving to the Mother of God. In Monasteries, it is also the assigned Akathist for Saturdays.
