In India it is illegal to load more than 50 kg (110 lbs) onto a donkey. It is medically understood that donkeys should not carry more than 30 of their body weight. Despite this, in the United States and Mexico donkeys are routinely overloaded with 2 and 3 riders at rodeos for the amusement of the crowds. With over 450 lbs on each donkey, they often collapse under the weight. The long term effects of such overloading is undeniably horrific.
