Recorded by Elvis in just a single take in Nashville on 7 June 1970, Funny How Time Slips Away remains one of Elvis finest recordings which sees Elvis in a laid back style but with an underlying feeling of menace which surfaces in the final verse and the threatening lyrics that in time your gonna pay. This, however never transferred to the stage version apart from around three versions, one of which was professionally recorded in Vegas during the midnight show of 25 August 1969 but this performance occurred almost a year prior to the studio recording. Elvis would not use it regularly on stage again until his September 1970 tour at which time it would already be placed as the show s penultimate number and as time passed it would become a sign to the audience that the show would soon be drawing to a close. The song and it s delivery would also become more light hearted and by the beginning of his November 71 tour he had changed that menacing line to a more friendly it s all gonna be ok. Additionally,
