Sons of Liberty: Ruby Starr
Ruby Starr is the second single from the hard hitting, bourbon smoked sophomore album Aces Eights, which is released on June 18th 2021. Rob outlines the inspiration for the song: Ruby was the backing singer for Black Oak Arkansas during the 70s. Jim Dandy, who formed the band, loved the way she looked and sounded and she was a great asset to the band live and in the studio. She recorded some solo albums when she left, and I was fortunate to see her singing in Las Vegas during the early 80s when I was travelling the USA. I had no idea it was her until many years later. I ve always been a big fan of full on female singers and she was one I believe she was better than Janis Joplin. This song is dedicated to her, a largely forgotten talent, who never gained the success she deserved.
