Sonya Stefan LÉcho des Îles

Separated by four sections, this film embraces the unpolished aesthetic of contact printed black white film stock and creates a link with basic formal contemporary dance elements. These elements are then subjected to various rephotographic techniques such as reversal color film stock, homemade filters and light manipulations. I used these techniques to transform my dancers movements from representation to abstraction. This transformation becomes the interior dance landscape of each interpreter. L Écho Des Îles requires 4 projectors to create a band of images across the space forming a dance troupe. This film becomes a choreography.
