H M V Exhibition soundbox with a Resin Impregnated Silk diaphragm
Standard H. M. V soundbox from the 1920 s. The later type made in the U. K with the more flexible triangular needle port to allow use of Bamboo fibre needles as well as Burmese Colour needles steel types. This soundbox has a newly made Diaphragm from a natural resin Impregnated Silk from a high quality, Antique Japanese Kimono. the resin has been built up in layers gives a tonal reproduction similar to a Mica diaphragm, but with a slightly softer tone.
