The mugger crocodile is found throughout the Indian subcontinent and the surrounding countries, including India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. Two subspecies are endangered: the Iranian Crocodile C. p. palustris and the Ceylon Mugger Crocodile or Sri Lanka Swamp Crocodile C. p. kimbula.
