Pop Goes The Weasel Sharp, 2
Pop Goes The Weasel is a Country Dance which people were dancing in England in 1909. Cecil Sharp recorded it and published it in The Country Dance Book (Part 1) published in 1909. It is a proper duple minor longways dance. Sharp described two different sets of figures with the same name, both are clearly variants of a dance (of the same name) which was popular in the 1850s. This dance involves a partner swing, a move unknown in traditional English Country Dances but familiar to any North American contra or square dancer. The animation plays at 112 counts per minute normally, but the first time through the set the dance is slowed down so people can learn the moves more readily. Men are drawn as rectangles, women as ellipses. Each couple is drawn in its own color, however the border of each dancer indicates what role they currently play so the border color will change each time through the minor set.
