This film recounts the Battle of Verdun, which took place in 1916 during the First World War. It is as much a documentary as a work of fiction. It consists of three acts called Visions. The first, The Force, describes the forces. The second, Hell, describes the German attacks and the last, Destiny, describes the response of the French troops.
