Tickling a baby bat: This is Miss Megabytie
Megabytie was rescued while hanging low in a tree, abandoned. She has been with me for about 3 and a half weeks now and she s ready for the next stage, so she s going to minicreche. She s nearly 10 weeks old. She s no longer grieving for her mum and is a happy and well adjusted little Miss who is ready for the rough and tumble of creche then life in the wild after release. When she s healthy, grown up, when her forearm is a certain length, her weight is enough, when she s emotionally stable and without injuries, she will go into creche where she will grow up a bit and socialise with other bats of her age and development, then she will go into the release cage around 5 months of age, and soft released. This means there will be food hung on the cage for all the babies until they have learned to find enough food for themselves. Eventually when the colony flies out for the winter, she will fly out with them and be a wild batty again.
