Costa Magarakis Surreal Shoes Tell The Most Imaginative Stories
Surreal shoe sculptures by Tel Avivbased artist Costa Magarakis. He uses the structure of shoes as the base for several of his work which is described as existing within a gothic wonderland illuminating the gray area between truth and lies. Footwear becomes the body of an animal, a maritime vessel, or a new type of creature altogether with his grotesque imagery drawn from modern symbols and icons merged with mythology, religion and science. Unconventional shoes have always been a thing for haute couture designers, as they embody their bizarre character, unique skills and vivid imagination. In Greek artists, Costa Magarakis, case, each shoe tells a different story. I often find archetypes in old childrens books and toys. I am attracted to things that evoke memories from childhood. The grotesque and the unknown are all important themes in the body of my work. I try to express something from my inner mind, he writes on his website.
