The DFB in Switzerland or Dampfbahn Furka Bergstrecke is a privately operated line depending largely on volunteer staff. They do a magnificent job keeping the line open in what are some of the world s most hazardous conditions. The line has to be closed each winter because of snow which is so bad that a bridge must be dismantled each year and reassembled each spring.
