Rick Chatenever Interviews Robin Williams
Robin Williams was always on. He was like a gift to interviewers, because you always felt like you were getting your own personal show wild, crazy, hilarious, wonderful. I got to interview him a couple of times during the 80s. This clip is from a San Francisco press junket for a movie called Cadillac Man, not one of his most memorable. Like every journalist who talked to him, I loved Robin s antic way with interviewers. But I had this crazy hope that I could get him not to do that and instead, to just talk. The interview took place a few weeks after the San Andreas earthquake had rocked the Bay Area in 1989. There were still aftershocks; things hadn t gotten back to normal, and everyone was still reacting to the quake. As they were wiring me with my mic, I talked to Robin about the experience, and how we were dealing with it with our kids. We both had young ones at the time. That s when the cameras started rolling.
