There are lots of crossborder friendships and in some sense, it is these friendships that build understanding between people from different countries and make the world a better place. For more about these encounters between Chinese and people from other countries, please check out the series Encounters in China from the playlist When Gareth Jones, a leading British bat expert, came to China for research in 2001, he made the acquaintance of Jinshuo Zhang, then a student majoring in biology. Out of a shared passion for academic research, they traveled together in nine provinces in China to explore the traces of bats. They covered places including famous mountains and unknown paths, and did their best in the research. In 2007, they even codiscovered a new species of bat, namely the Barbastella beijingensis (Beijing wideeared bat).
