In a classroom, the men are taught about submarines and shown how to put on and operate the Davis escape apparatus. Then the sailors go aboard a submarine for their first trip to sea. The N23 submarine slowly submerges. Below decks, we see sailors being instructed on what to do and how to use the different equipment, including the periscope. The submarine surfaces.
