Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi The realization of a dream
Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi stands alone in the history of our search for enlightenment. It is our desire to make known to the world her message and her all important discovery: Sahaja Yoga meditation. Above all, it is our desire to introduce her to everyone who did not have the privilege of meeting her in person and hearing her speak or find out about her life. On 21st March 1923, Nirmala Salve, known as Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi, was born in Chhindwara, India, to Rao Salve and Cornelia Jadhav. Her father was the only member of the Christian religion to be part of the Indian parliament during the first legislature and her mother was the first Indian woman to get a degree cum laude in mathematics. As a young girl, Nirmala fought for India s liberation alongside Mahatma Gandhi, who wanted her in his ashram at the age of only seven years old. On 7th April 1947, after India s proclamation of Independence, Shri Mataji married the diplomat Sir C. P. Srivastava and they had two daughters: Kalpana and Sadh
