WOMEN RIGHTS ACTIVISTS PROTEST IN MEXICO FOR LEGAL AND FREE ABORTION, 28 S
Women rights activists have been demonstrating and fighting hard in Mexico against femicide for the past year. Today, protesters took to the streets to fight for safe, free and legal abortion in all of Mexico (it is currently only available in Mexico City Oaxaca). Protesters were met with violence like always, but were able to resist and continue to demonstrate. A few weeks ago activists seized and occupied Mexicos National Human Rights Commission building. (Graphic) Violence against women in Mexico is rampant and an average of 11 women are murdered daily, the criminals are rarely brought to justice and police often commit these violent acts. There was a reported 3 million sexual attacks in Mexico from 2010 to 2015 and studies have found that only an estimated 15 of attacks are reported in the country. These attacks are rarely punished.
