1935 Fashions Go Ahead Feminine Pictorialities (1935)

First we see a black Visca straw with a shovel brim modelled by Miss Betty Kean, the young soubrette from Cochran s show Anything Goes at the Palace Theatre. Betty then wears a red split straw hat with a high pointed crown. The next hat is a white straw with an eye veil. Then a straw hat with a wide brim, cut back at the front and turned up at the back. Then three that are updated versions of Edwardian styles a picture hat trimmed with a large organdie flower, a hemp straw hat with a white ostrich feather at the back and a velvet bow at the front and, finally, a fabulous black straw with a wide brim tilted down at the front and the crown covered with a white ostrich feather (I ll take this one ). Commentator notes that the styles all look quite modern and yet quite oldfashioned, and quotes the design
