The Night That Panicked America (1975) HG Wells
When a young Orson Welles (Paul Shenar) decides to adapt H. G. Wells novel The War of the Worlds into a radio play, he does such a realistic job of it that many listeners actually believe that Martians have invaded the United States. While Welles and his cohorts create the drama in a broadcast booth, we simultaneously see a couple in New Jersey, a network executive, a farm boy and a minister all react with varying degrees of shock and anxiety to what they think is the end of the world.
