We had then been closely associated for three decades ever since the day in July 1930 when I conducted Manon Lescaut in Stockholm, and Jussis name appeared for the first time on the Royal Court Operas playbill. At the time of his death Jussi Björling stood at the height of his career. He used his voice as masterly as Kreisler used his violin and Casals his cello.
