2016 Lecture 10 Maps of Meaning: Gautama Buddha, Adam and Eve
The story of the Buddha shares much of its structure with the creation myth featuring Adam and Eve in the Book of Genesis. The commonalities include the idea of a paradisal, enclosed space; the disruption of that space by anomalies associated with mortality; and, in the final analysis, the idea of enlightenment or identification with the divine as medication for tragic selfconsciousness.
