José Padilla Scoring Sunsets, Resident Advisor
When José Padilla was 20, he jumped on a boat travelling from the Spanish mainland to Ibiza. He, like so many others, immediately fell in love with island life: the pace, the people and, of course, the party scene, which was just starting to blossom. At that point, he couldn t have known he would stay on the White Isle for the rest of his life. Padilla, who died last year aged 64, became one of Ibiza s most cherished DJs, a master and pioneer of the worldrenowned Balearic sound. This short film by Matt Crocker tells Padilla s story in his own words, combining footage from an unreleased interview with shots of the White Isle in its heyday, before big money and mass international tourism changed the clubbing landscape forever.
