IN THE SHADE OF THE OLD APPLE TREE, Stephanie Trick Paolo Alderighi
In the Shade of the Old Apple Tree was written by Egbert Van Alstyne and Harry Williams in 1905. Van Alstyne wrote about 400 compositions, including rags, novelty songs, and ballads. He noted that the inspiration for this song came from his childhood, which he spent in bucolic places. His family vacationed in Michigan in a home surrounded by white pines and apple orchards, which is supposedly where he wrote his first tunes.
